PPF Saves the Day! Jaguar F Pace Hood [Video]

Is PPF “worth it”? We think so.

PPF and ceramic coatings are sometimes sold as silver bullets, cure-alls or miracle technology that will stop an asteroid. As much as we would like them to be, they aren’t, but when shown what they can do we’re continually impressed by their strength and resiliency.

As you’ll see in the video, this Jaguar had a fully-wrapped hood since it was new. It’s been well cared for so far, but certainly isn’t a garage queen. While moving things around the vehicle, our client had a piece of wood fall on the car- thankfully onto the panel covered with PPF! At 8 mils thick, this film was pushed to its limits when the sharp edge caught the panel, tearing it and slightly denting the panel underneath. The paint underneath was intact- no chipping or scratching! A job well done.

Of the many reasons we tout these products as solutions to certain aspects of car care is that they can prevent unnecessary maintenance and repair. The cost of applying STEK DYNOshield PPF to a standard sized hood, outside of any of our packages, is $525 plus a preparation detail. On a modern vehicle, with a lustrous, metallic or pearl-coat finish, the invoice to repaint this panel is sky high. Not to mention potential blending or loss of value because of a repaint. Is the tradeoff worth it? Keeping in mind this PPF was applied just shy of 6 years ago, and combined with the coverage on the front bumper has stopped plenty of rock chips from tarnishing the beautiful metallic green paint- we think so.
